In the 1960's through approximately 2007 the state of Michigan was ahead of all of the other states, and had its own unique Barrier Free Code. As of approximately 2007, Michigan adopted rule #408.30427 which reads:
R 408.30427 Barrier free design for buildings, structures, and improved areas.
Rule 427. Sections 1101.2 and 1109.7 of the code are amended and section 1103.2.156 is added to the
code to read as follows:
1101.2 Design. Buildings and facilities shall be designed and constructed to be accessible in
accordance with 1966 PA 1, MCL 125.1351 to 125.1356, this code and ICC/ANSI A 117.1, except
sections 611 and 707.
Now, if you call the Michigan Plan Review Board at 517 241-9328 in Lansing and ask them about how to obtain a copy of the MIchigan Barrier Free Code, you will be told that you must purchase the 2003 ICC/ANSI A117.1-2003 Code. This code book is available from the:
International Code Council at their ICC Website for approximately $48.00. |
